In overseeing the affairs at the workplace, one tends to overlook their vision. It is noted that most employees develop eye problems due to excessive use of computers. However, even after extensive research, it cannot be said that computer monitors cause eye diseases. It is only established that using display screen equipment for long hours can cause dry eyes and eye strain.

Computer Vision Syndrome

Computer vision syndrome is common amongst frequent monitor users. It causes itchy eyes, blurry and double vision. It becomes difficult to focus on distant objects and leads to severe headaches, dry eyes, and eye strain.

Care For Your Eyes

If your job requires you to work on your computer for long hours, follow these steps to help you relax your eyes:

  • Minimise working on the computer at a stretch. Take short and frequent breaks. Make a 20-20 rule; work for 20 minutes and a 20 second break in which you look at a different object that is far to reduce the strain in your eyes.
  • Use a notepad to take notes instead of the computer.
  • Keep the brightness of your screen at a comfortable resolution.
  • Position your computer screen just below your eye level for less strain.
  • Purchase special computer glasses which further protect you from the rays of the computer.
  • Visit a doctor to prevent further damage to your eyes.

Better Health, Better Vision

Apart from the few tips and tricks you can employ at the workplace, it is also important to care for your overall health. Eating better helps improve your health, including your vision. It is proven that a plant-based diet can help improve vision, and even reverse eye problems. Exercising your eyes and resting them enough through sleep will also go a long way in keeping your eyes healthy.
