Living With A Partner With A Lifelong Condition

We humans were not meant to be alone as individuals...

We humans were not meant to be alone as individuals. We weren’t placed on this planet to live in isolation, but to interact and share our lives with one another. Of the many people we come across in our lives, including our families and friends, there is one person with whom we end up spending the maximum time in our lives - our Life Partner. The relationship between a husband and a wife is ideally lifelong - something that today most people consider disputable. Few would agree when you’d say a couple can live happily together forever. However, does it get more difficult when your partner has a lifelong disease?

Continued Dialogue and Laughs

Having someone to communicate with for life is an invaluable gift. You get to know each other’s communicating style, thought patterns to the extent of finishing each other’s sentences! This flowers a bond that one gets to share with a very few people in life. With a lifelong companion, you can joke around, act silly and laugh the hardest. Such moments of intimacy are priceless for life. These moments also help tide over the struggle of caring for a partner with an illness.

I Got Your Back

There is no better or more strengthening feeling than having someone to fall back on whenever you slip. You feel a different sense of strength and security when you know you’re backed by a companion through thick and thin. While the good times become more joyful, the relationship grows closer after overcoming a crisis. Even though you are caring for your partner through the illness, knowing that your partner is there for you too is a great source of comfort.

Shared Emotions, Shared Responsibilities

As humans, we naturally should vent our emotions and a lifelong companion is someone we can never be reluctant to express our feelings. It relieves you! The burden of constant household responsibilities and finances is halved. When you are caring for a partner with an illness, it can seem like you are taking on more responsibilities and burdens. However, you can always talk to your partner about the same.

Health Concerns

As you get older, you’ll be confronted with health challenges, physical and mobility weakness. You’ll need someone beside you for inevitable medical assistance and emergencies. Seek support from other family members or friends, and speak to the staff at the hospital where your partner is receiving treatment. You may be able to arrange for assistance for both of you.
