What is a diet? When you look at ‘diete’, the French word it comes from, it says ‘a daily food allowance’.It can also be described as an eating regimen, one follows to achieve a desired result: losing weight, reducing cholesterol, living a long life, or simply correcting an ailment. There are literally thousands of diets out there, but here we will focus only on this trio.

Pescetarian diet

This diet is complete vegetarian except for seafood. A pescetarian (one who adopts this type of diet) refrains from eating land animals and satiates his/her craving for meat by eating white meat namely – fish, prawns, and clams. They can also indulge their appetites with fruits, vegetables, grains, nuts and even eggs and dairy products. The benefit of adopting this diet is that it reduces cholesterol and the risk of cardiovascular disease, thanks to intake of omega-3 fatty acid from the fish.

Ovo-lactarian diet

Also known as Ovo-lacto vegetarianism, this diet is like the one above in all ways, but without the inclusion of white meat. This diet is devoid of any type of meat but embrace dairy products, eggs, and honey. The Ovo-lactarian diet, if followed in a balanced way, offers complete nutrition and is rich in minerals, vitamins, and antioxidants. Based on a vegan diet, it is a high-fibre, low-fat arrangement that proves beneficial in lowering blood pressure, reducing the risk of cancer, and controlling type-2 diabetes.

Vegan diet

A diet that is completely plant-based, and with no exceptions. Vegan also refers to the person who follows a vegetarian diet and shuts himself/herself off completely not only from meat of all types, but also from substances that are animal-based. This includes dairy products and eggs too. Benefits include a drastic increase in cardiovascular health, weight loss and decrease in macular degeneration.
