Diabetes is a disease which occurs when the sugar level or glucose level in the blood is too high. It is caused by deficiency of the ‘Insulin’ hormone, which helps glucose to be absorbed by the cell for giving energy. The body does not produce insulin in a person suffering from diabetes, leading to excessive levels of glucose in the blood.

To prevent this disease from happening to you, it is very important to be alert and attentive. The early signs are silent and therefore harder to diagnose.

Excessive Thirst

Drinking lots of water is usually healthy, but not here. Excessive thirst is one of the earliest signs of diabetes. This happens when there is excess sugar in the bloodstream and the kidney is forced to absorb it, resulting in more thirst. More water also leads to frequent urination, which is another sign of being diabetic.

Exhaustion

Suffering from diabetes brings about exhaustion, as all the cells in the body are not getting sugar and therefore, are deprived of energy. High levels of blood sugar leads to the kidneys working overtime to restore balance. These factors combine to bring about fatigue, exhaustion, and irritation.

Increased Hunger

The brain takes the body’s inability to process sugar and convert it into energy, as a signal to eat more food to acquire energy. This is the reason many diabetics also suffer from obesity.

Weight Loss

Losing around 5-10 kg in a few weeks can be a symptom of diabetes. Weight loss is caused by frequent urination, that takes along with it sugar and calories, which are essential for proper functioning of the body.

Blurry Vision

High blood sugar levels cause fluids to be pulled out of tissues. Eyes contain tissues, and are not impervious. Thus, the changing fluid levels in eyes give rise to distortion in focus and subsequently, blurred vision.
